Orange surcote

Description

So this is my orange surcoat. It needs to be hemmed, but what doesn't. So I consider it finished.

I was originally making a 14th century long sleeved dress, the waist seam in inaccurate so it had to be 15th century, and I saw this [link] photo and realised I didn’t need to make sleeves (pet hate). So the dress is based on the dress on the far left.

I draped the pattern for the bodice and made the skirt out of the left over material. It laces up the back through a ridiculous amount of eyelets.

It is late 15th century and from France. It is linen, and hand finished, though not hand sewn (though the skirt and bodice are hand sewn together)

I wear it over my shift [link]

I is longer than the one in the pic, but I think the one in the picture has been pulled over the belt to kamake it shorter. I know it as 'kirtling up', though some people call tucking the hem into the belt that, so, yeah.

I photoshopped my head and hands out because I wanted the ugly background of my room gone, and because my face looked worse than usual, and because when I tried to leave my head in I couldn't be bothered carefully cropping round my hair. I CAN, but couldn't be bothered. Then my hand looked funny, so I took it out and photoshopped dress over it roughly.

And the armholes are smaller because I was going to put sleeves on, but now aren't because I don't need no stinkin' sleeves HA
Oh, excuse the arm behind the back, I did the top lacing up...
